About Us
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is a Treasury Board Crown Agency responsible for provincial emergency management, fire safety and wildfire management in our province as well as managing Saskatchewan's 911 emergency dispatching services.
Municipalities are responsible under legislation to manage their response when events threaten the safety of people, property and the environment.
When a municipality or First Nation has exhausted their local capacity and mutual aid agreements, and require assistance, they can request support from the province. If a request is made to the Government of Saskatchewan through the SPSA, the Agency can allocate provincial resources to support the evacuation of residents.
Due to significant impacts on individuals, families and communities, it is the goal of the SPSA to support people within their home communities whenever possible by having communities’ shelter in place or by establishing fresh air centres.
Emergency and Crisis Support (ECS) is a program within SPSA intended to meet the urgent, basic needs of individuals who have been forced from their homes due to a disaster. At the request of a community, the province can provide provincial resources to support the evacuation of residents when a real and imminent threat exists to ensure the safety of their citizens.
The Evacuation App was created to provide the citizens of Saskatchewan with a simple way of providing their community the information required if an event occurred within their area where an evacuation was necessary. Information is shared with community leadership and used to ensure resources are available during an emergency.
Basic needs include registration and inquiry, lodging, food and emergency clothing, psycho-social services, transportation (in host community), and recreational activities.
The Saskatchewan Evacuation App is a tool developed to provide residents with a means of providing their community with necessary information required where an evacuation is necessary. Residents are encouraged to pre-register themselves and their families. Saskatchewan residents’ information collected through the application is shared with the home community’s leadership and is also used to ensure resources are available during an emergency.
